Framing slick

A slick is a chisel the size of your forearm, socketed onto a long handle and pushed by hand — no mallet. It pares big timbers with the kind of control you only get from your shoulder.

When it shines

Fitting a tenon into its mortise, fairing a brace, or taking the saw marks off a beam face — the slick does the finishing cuts.
